I don't understand why it won't check sprites in files

whenever I try to draw a sprite in a folder onto the screen it won't work

Have you created a sprite and placed it in your first file?

I have multiple files with multiple sprites

Create a file, try drawing outside of it, then add your sprites into that file. If you want to merge your files, create another new file and drag all your other files into it.
